Rituals of Light: Creativity, Wellbeing & the Summer Solstice

Our June Wellbeing Apéro was a beautiful celebration of light, ritual, and the small intentional moments that help us feel grounded and creatively alive. As Brussels stepped into the longest day of the year - even longer than many places further south - our candlelit studio became a cool refuge from the heat outside and a warm gathering space inside. Chaleur in every sense: escaping it, inviting it, and exploring how ritual can bring light into our lives, even when the sky is grey.

We began with Emmanuelle guiding us through a gentle breathing ritual to help us catch our breath from the week. You could feel the room shift - shoulders dropping, breath deepening, a collective exhale. Melissa then led a reflection on the Solstice, the science of light, and the rituals we already practice without noticing. Through a guided visualisation, we explored the small anchors in our day - the morning cup of tea, the walk to the tram, the moment we open the window - and how these can become intentional rituals that support our wellbeing and creativity. She shared the science behind our need for light, and how even in cloudy Brussels, stepping outside is enough to regulate our nervous system and boost our mood.

Marianne, massage therapist and dancer, shared her own rituals of movement - simple stretches done in bed to begin and end the day, ways to release tension in the jaw, neck, and shoulders, and even a ritual to spark energy when the body feels sluggish. The group had wonderful questions: How should we sit at work? How do we relax our shoulders? Can we create rituals as a team? The answer was yes - and we explored how micro‑rituals can become shared moments of connection.

We ended the evening with tea, wine, and conversation - familiar faces who return each month, and new ones crossing our threshold with curiosity. As guests left, we heard: “This was the uplifting I needed,” and “Thank you for doing this for all of us.” Everyone walked out with a small ritual to carry into the summer — and the reminder that wellbeing is built in community, one intentional moment at a time.
